Fundraising & Volunteering for Chiang Mai Flood Relief
Lanna programming should be unaffected, but it's an important opportunity to help locals
As you may have heard, Chiang Mai was hit by a record flood last week. Lanna programming should not be affected (we shared an update for folks arriving in the next week and have daily updates in the telegram group) but the most important thing right now is that the local community has been greatly impacted, and this presents an opportunity for us to be able to give back to the local area that is hosting us.

How can we help?
Right now, the best way to support is by donating money that will allow locals to buy supplies:
Any amount - Food and water: This is the priority right now and what the local team on the ground is focused on. Every little bit helps.
$5 - Bucket: Handy for carrying water or cleaning solutions for flood cleanup.
$10 - Water slider: Helps efficiently push water off smooth surfaces like tile or concrete.
$10 - Mop: Useful for cleaning and drying wet floors after water removal.
$150 - Mobile water pump: Essential for quickly removing standing water from flooded areas.
$200 - High-pressure washing machine: Powerful for cleaning mud and debris from surfaces after a flood.
$250 - Safety Boat: Very important for safely evacuating people and valuable items from the flood.
When you have arrived, even if it’s a week from now or later, the local team says that the best way to help on the ground is by visiting and spending money at local businesses to help the economy get going again.
How to donate
Donate in fiat here: https://buy.stripe.com/3csdTGfWIg1B68o9AB
Donate in crypto here: https://giveth.io/project/edge-city-lanna-flood-relief
We will create NFT badges based on donation levels. If you donate the following, you’ll get the corresponding Lanna badge! We will issue these after everything is over.
$50: Ally
$100: Supporter
$500: Backer
$1,000: Champion
How we’ll use the money
100% of proceeds will go to flood relief. The majority will go to the local Thai team, led by John Ho, in helping their efforts on the ground and the community surrounding Ping River by buying the supplies listed above. We will also donate a portion to relief efforts organized by other popup villages in Chiang Mai, which are focusing on other at-risk populations.
Volunteering on the ground
If you are in already in town:
You can volunteer help on Monday Oct 7th and Tuesday Oct 8th. Check the Flood Relief group in the telegram group chat.
There are other opportunities to volunteer on the ground with other communities that were affected. Join the telegram group @helpeachotherchiangmai to hear about these.
Later this week:
We are planning a full volunteer support day on Saturday Oct 12th. If you are in town, please join! https://edgecitylanna.sola.day/event/detail/10167
If you know of specific businesses or individuals that have been affected, please fill in this form so we can coordinate support: https://forms.gle/mxiQG2otVU3zut5U8
This will be an opportunity for a meaningful impact on the ground, and will be a good way to kick off the month by supporting the local community who are hosting our village. It has already been incredible to see how people have rallied around the community and gone out of their way to support.
Thank you all so much for being part of this effort. Although it’s stressful, we’re genuinely glad that we can be here to help people in need. It’s also a good opportunity to reflect on how these “once in a generation” disasters are becoming more and more common around the world, and witness first-hand how people will be affected in a future with a changing climate.
Thank you,
The Edge City Lanna team ☀️
Thank all who assist the local Chiang Mai community. While our subdistrict flooded, the water did not enter our house. So many others are not so fortunate. For those attending Edge City Lanna, all should be fine for your attendance here. Welcome to Chiang Mai.
